A safe, contact-minimal wash. Most of the dirt is lifted chemically before anything touches the paint, which is what stops a regular wash putting swirl marks in over time.

Not a first clean. If the car hasn't been properly cleaned in months, start with an In & Out Deep Clean and keep it there with this.

Compressed air and steam do the work here. Grit is blown out of the joins it hides in first, then every contact surface is steam sanitised rather than wiped over.

A wash removes what's sitting on the paint. This removes what's bonded into it — tar, iron fallout from brake dust, and road film — so the paint is genuinely clean before it's sealed.

The deep clean, then the paint is clayed smooth and sealed under a one-year ceramic coating. It protects the paint you've got rather than correcting it — if it's swirled and you want the marks gone, add paint enhancement.

For paint that looks dull, hazy or swirled under direct light. One machine polishing stage removes most of the light damage and brings back depth, gloss and clarity.

A coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in, so the paint is corrected first. Water sheets off instead of sitting on the panel, dirt struggles to bond, and washing gets considerably easier for a year rather than weeks.

Ask about: longer-life coatings, wheel coatings, and coating over a multi-stage correction

Cigarette smoke, spilt milk, pets and biological spills. Air fresheners mask odour; this removes what's causing it, then treats what's left in the fabric, foam and ventilation.

For paint you want as close to perfect as it gets. A heavy cutting stage removes the deeper damage, then a refinement stage removes the haze the cutting leaves behind. Badly neglected or heavily swirled paint may need a third stage.

Finish it with: a ceramic coating, so the corrected paint stays that way

From £550, depending on size and how far gone the paint is. Send a few photos in daylight and we'll tell you honestly whether it needs two stages or whether a single-stage Enhancement Polish will do.

A full colour change, or a partial wrap on the panels you want to stand out. The original paint stays underneath, protected from stone chips and UV, and the wrap comes off when you want it to.

Clear, self-healing urethane film fitted over the panels that take the damage. Stone chips, scuffs and car park scratches stop at the film instead of the paint, and light marks in the film close up with heat.

Often paired with: a ceramic coating over the film, so the whole car cleans the same way

Professionally cut and fitted film for heat rejection, UV protection and privacy. Fitted indoors so there's nothing trapped under the film, then left to cure properly before the car goes back out.

UK law: the windscreen must let through at least 75% of light and the front side windows at least 70%, so those can only be tinted lightly. Everything behind the driver is unrestricted.

Chrome window surrounds, grille, badges and trim wrapped in gloss or satin black. It's the smallest change that alters how a car reads from across a car park, and it costs a fraction of a full wrap.
